Just Carrying On

I’ve been working on the messenger bag in the evenings while watching movies. I’ve recently been told that there’s a debate about whether or not a wool carrying case is safe for laptops because of static electricity. I’ve read a little of both sides of the argument on Ravelry. I’m leaning more toward the argument that there wouldn’t be enough static electricity build up during normal use to pose a significant threat. I’ll keep looking at the arguments in the meantime, though.

I’m about halfway done with the main part of the bag and it should be about 18 inches tall before felting.

Other than that, I’m still working on Thira (Links: Knitty; Ravelry) and I joined a knitalong on Ravelry for a new sweater design by Norah Gaughan. If you’re not on Ravelry, the knitalong instructions are also on the Berroco blog. Not that I needed another project to work on, though.

We’ve had a really quiet few days here so there isn’t any more excitement from this neck of the woods.

  1. No kidding? I hadn’t heard about the static electricity but it seems like your laptop would have to be on for any static to bother it……but then again, I have no scientific brain. Can’t wait to see the finished bag!

  2. Excitement is often vastly overrated.

Hopefully the wool will be fine with the laptop! There are all those wool sweaters and jackets around computers and they seem to be fine. (OTOH, I live in CA. Wool sweaters?)

  3. Excitement is overrated. I’ll take boring any day. I hadn’t heard the static thing either.

  4. I think the wool is no problem for the laptop…but you may want to think about either lining the bag (for additional strength) or creating a little “pillow-case” for the computer to avoid scratches if you put other stuff in the bag.

The KAL looks very cool. I wonder if I have something in my stash that would work…(must not buy more yarn).

PS Thanks for the note. In true FL fashion, the last few days have been hot and sunny, no signs of the storm left.

  5. I can’t see how the wool will be an issue, think it’s going to turn out great.
